You asked, we answered

I know a few contract manufacturers and they seem pretty good. Why do I need to do contract manufacturer selection?

Well, good doesn’t always mean fit.

Many product companies and contract manufacturers end business cooperation unpleasantly because both parties don’t know much about each other before engagement.

With dozens of contract manufacturers selection projects, we understand deeply how to identify and mitigate the risks.

Why does contract manufacturer selection process take 8-12 weeks?

There are 3 phases for this process:

1) Find the candidates, and scan their interest level and capabilities. This would take 2 to 3 weeks.

2) RFQ (Request for Quotation), RFP (Request for Proposal) preparation, questions and answers. This would take 2 to 3 weeks.

3) On-site visit and assessment, RFQ, RFP review. This would take 2 weeks.

4) Manufacturing service agreement draft, review and negotiation. This would take 2 to 4 weeks.

How many contract manufacturers will you approach? Do I have access to them all?

Normally we will start with 6-8 diversified contract manufacturers. And 3-4 candidates will be down selected for deep on-site assessment, RFQ (Request for Quotation), RFP (Request for Proposal). Eventually, we will recommend 2-3 candidates into final shortlist.

You will get all of the supplier profile and contacts from the very beginning.

When is the right time for me and my team to visit potential contract manufacture candidates?

If you’re responsible for operations, engineering or manufacturing, it’d be good that you visit contract manufacturers together with us when we’re down selecting to 3-4 candidates, so that you can understand and verify if these candidates meet all critical requirements.

If you’re the final decision maker, it’s suggested that you visit the final shortlist candidates’ facility, meet with their executives to build relationship and participate in the final negotiation for business terms and conditions.

I’ve selected contract manufacturer candidates already but I want to have a fair deal before signing the agreement, can you help us with the manufacturing service agreement draft, review and provide us negotiation proposals?

Of course.
